Welcome

As of going online in 2025, this website contains a wide range of photographs taken in the USA and internationally mainly since my photography went digital in 2008. The contents will expand to include my images of additional places and subjects and from earlier years in which I used film. Among the additions will be street life and other pictures taken on trips in the PRC in the early 1980’s.

My interest in photography started as a youngster and by my teenage years I had a darkroom where I developedt black and white films and made prints. There have over time regularly been a camera, or two, ready at my side. Early on I used a Graflex Speed Graphic camera that accepted both sheet and roll film. After that, the cameras included: double lens (120 mm) and single lens (35 mm) film, both reflex and viewfinder; and, since 2008, digital full frame reflex and then mirrorless (APSC and medium formats).

My photo subjects include people, ancient sites, wild animals of many types, churches, memorials and landscapes. Travel — domestic and international, personal and professional — has been part of my life for decades. Thus, I have been fortunate to capture shots in many USA states and almost 70 countries.

This website is intended to share some of my favorite photos, many taken while traveling while others from right here in the Washington, D.C. region. The photographs are organized by location under Places (e.g., Antarctica, Tanzania) and/or by category under Subjects (e.g., Seascapes, Birds, Flora). At the beginning of each gallery for a “Place” - one or more areas in a country - a narrative provides an abbreviated travelogue and context for the photos in that gallery. In the Subjects galleries, each photo has a brief “what and where” identification.

Hopefully you will enjoy the selections chosen for the website.
