Welcome

As of going online in May 2025, this website contains a wide range of photographs that I have taken in the USA and internationally since 2009. The contents will expand to include images of additional locations and subjects and from other years. Among the additions will be street life and people pictures I took in the PRC in the early 1980’s. 

I began taking photos as a youngster and by the time I was a teenager developed and printed them in black and white in my darkroom. I have regularly had a camera, or two, ready at my side. Early on I used a Graflex Speed Graphic camera that accepted both sheet and roll film. After that, the cameras have included: double lens (120 mm) and single lens (35 mm) reflex film; digital single lens reflex (full frame format); and, since 2012, digital mirrorless (APSC and medium formats).  

My photo subjects have ranged widely, including people, historic sites, wild animals, food, and landscapes. Travel — domestic and international, personal and professional — has been a consistent part of my life for decades. Thus, I have been fortunate enough to capture shots in many USA states and almost 70 countries.

This website is intended to share some of the photos of my visual experiences, many taken while traveling while others are from right here in the Washington, D.C. region. The photographs are organized by location under Places (e.g., Antarctica, Tanzania) and also by category under Subjects (e.g., Seascapes, Birds). At the beginning of each “Place” - one or more areas in a country - a narrative provides context for the photos in that gallery.
